DIY fume extractor

Aspirafumo

There are a lot of articles about DIY fume extractor around the web, someone cooler than others but all functionals. This is a quick project of my version of the fume extractor.

Ci sono un sacco di articoli di DIY di aspirafumo in giro per il web, alcuni pià fichi di altri, ma tutti funzionali. Questo è un veloce progetto della mia versione.

For this project I used:

  • A computer fan and grid. I used an 80 mm fan;
  • An helping hand (aka third hand);
  • A sheet of metal bent to the edges;
  • A 12V DC power supply.

Per questo progetto ho utilizzato:

  • Una ventola per pc da 80 mm e relativa griglia;
  • Una terza mano;
  • Un pezzo di metallo incurvato ai bordi;
  • Un alimentatore a 12V.

First I’ve cutted a round hole in the metal sheet to fit the fan:

Innanzitutto ho tagliato un foro rotondo per adattare la ventola al telaio principale.

Then I have separated the base and the main joint of the third hand from the rest: it will be the base of the fume extractor.

Successivamente ho separato la base e lo snodo principale della terza mano dal resto: questo diventerà la base del mio aspirafumo.

I’ve made an additional hole in the metal frame, bolting it to the third hand’s base:

Ho forato ulteriormente la cornice metallica adattandola con una vite alla base della terza mano:

Finally I glued the electrical connector on the base, and made the electrical connections:

Infine ho incollato il connettore elettrico sulla base ed effettuato i collegamenti elettrici:

You can also add an air filter if you works in a tiny or not well aerated space. In this case the grid must be placed between the fan and the air filter, in order to avoid that the filter from becoming jammed in the fan blades:

Eventualmente si può aggiungere un filtro dell’aria, nel caso si alvori in spazi piccoli o non sufficientemente areati. In questo caso la griglia va inserita tra la ventola ed il filtro dell’aria, per evitare che il filtro venga risucchiato, incastrandosi nella pale del ventilatore:
